Milton Keynes secures financial support for care sector

Almost £1m of government funding has been secured by Milton Keynes Council for the adult social care sector, which will be made available to all care homes and regulated community providers across the city.

The funding will support care organisations as they recover from the pandemic and will ensure they can continue with measures to protect vulnerable residents.

The financial support comes from two available government grants, including the Infection Prevention and Control Fund and a Rapid testing Fund, with funding available dependent on the number of registered beds or people receiving care in each care home or regulated community provider.

Cllr Emily Darlington, cabinet member for adults, housing and healthy communities, said: ‘This funding is critical for a sector that has been on the front lines of this pandemic.  Alongside the careful distribution of more than £6.9million of essential government funding since June 2020, we have also provided £1.4million of additional financial support.

‘We’ve been working closely with Public Health colleagues and the NHS to advise and guide care homes and the sector.  We also stepped in to source and distribute vital PPE supplies during national shortages and will continue to prioritise the support of our care homes and local care providers.’

Care homes and regulated community providers have been contacted by the Council about the available funding, and will receive their allocation shortly, with funding to be spent retrospectively from 1 July to 30 September 2021.
