To bridge the social care vacancy gap, Bradford Council have rounded up current carers to explain why it’s such a rewarding career. In this video we hear Tony’s story.

The initiative is otherwise known as ‘Be Someone’s…’ and was first launched in June 2024. It was created by Bradford Council and Bradford Care Association after it was revealed that the city has over 1,000 vacant care positions.

Since the campaign was launched, six videos have been made to showcase how enriching a career in care can be. However, no two videos are the same – the beauty of calling the campaign ‘Be someone’s…’ gives carers the chance to explain what they specifically bring to their role, whilst showcasing how other people can exclusively impact someone’s life.

For example, in this video we hear from Tony, whose video is titled ‘Be Someone’s Cup of Comfort’.

Tony said: ‘I tell everyone if you really want to show love, join the carers because we need people that can make others smile, feel alive again, and put the magic spark back into their life.

‘My journey into the job has been amazing but what really keeps me going is that every job I attend is different and presents unique challenges. The drive to impact their life is what keeps me steady.’

Tony’s story is one of the more recent videos that’s been posted. Previous examples include Sharon’s story which is titled ‘Be Someone’s Sprinkle of Sunshine’, and Tiz’s story which is known as ‘Be Someone’s Voice in the Crowd’. A full list of the videos can be found here.

A Joint statement from Bradford Council and Bradford Care Association, reads: ‘At the heart of the campaign is the recognition that every day in adult social care is different, offering a dynamic and fulfilling career path for those who choose to join the sector.’
