Invacare have created a new wheelchair and it might be the best yet

At the first-ever fully inclusive triathlon event in Windsor, the global mobility equipment manufacturer unveiled their new children’s wheelchair which was a huge hit with chocolate fans.

The children’s Action 3 Junior wheelchair has been complete with a caterpillar design as a way of recognising the popular caterpillar cake often found at supermarkets. This particular caterpillar represents ‘Cuthbert’ – Aldi’s version of the well-known desert.

The new wheelchair was unveiled at The Superhero Triathlon, which was powered by Marvel and took place in Windsor on Saturday. Over 4,000 took part in the event and Aldi was one of the main sponsors.

Cuthbert cakes from the global supermarket branch surrounded the wheelchair at the event, with the chair delighting attendees and drawing plenty of smiles and photo opportunities.

Leisa Evans, global head of communications at Invacare, said the unveiling is part of the company’s commitment to enabling people to personalise their mobility equipment.

According to the most recent statistics from Liberty Group, there are around 1.2 million wheelchair users in the UK.

Evans explained: ‘We are proud to have unveiled our caterpillar-themed wheelchair here in Windsor, which has created lots of happy and fun moments for families throughout the day. We couldn’t have imagined a better place to showcase this, than alongside Aldi at the Superhero Triathlon.

‘We offer a service called Unique at Invacare that personalises wheelchair designs, allowing people to choose their own style. The demand for this service is becoming increasingly popular.’

Richard Thornton, communications director at Aldi UK, added: ‘Cuthbert has become a beloved character for many, and it’s heartwarming to see how he continues to inspire joy beyond our cake aisle. Now in the form of this amazing caterpillar-themed wheelchair, it was brilliant to see this unveiled by Invacare at the Superhero Triathlon.

‘Aldi is incredibly proud to have been part of such an event to promote inclusivity and celebrate the superheroes taking part.’
