Independent living: Radis Community Care helped three siblings fly the nest
Conversion work has just been completed on a property in Grantham which has enabled three adults to live independently.
Radis Community Care have launched a new campaign in partnership with Golden Lane Housing – one of the UK’s leading social housing landlords – to help provide supported living services for people living with a learning disability and/or autism.
Their latest success story includes siblings Aiden and Shannon, who have moved out of their family home for the first time this month to start living independently.
Their mother, Michelle, who has been involved in the process every step of the way, has said: ‘I’ve seen the property since it’s been renovated and it’s looking lovely!
‘We’re very excited for Aiden and Shannon to experience what it’s like living on their own. It’s obviously hard to see them go but it’s an exciting change and we think this big move is going to be the making of them.’
In addition, Gavin Dixon, head of supported living services at Radius Community Care, has claimed that this will be the best decision the siblings ever make.
‘We’re proud that the individuals moving into their home are able to start a new, independent chapter of their lives and that with our support, this close-knit group can live together,’ Dixon said. ‘Supported living services provide a great opportunity for those living with complex additional needs, learning disabilities and neurodivergence to develop independence with bespoke care and support.’
As well as Shannon and Aiden moving into the newly converted home, Joseph – who is their childhood friend – is also set to move into the property.
Joseph’s mother, Julie, said: ‘Everything has been absolutely fantastic. The team at Radius have been very helpful and have answered all our questions promptly.’
According to the National Autistic Society, autistic people are more likely to experience loneliness than those without it and recommend that if they want to live more freedom, they should consider moving into supported housing.
