Poppy Jaman joins Centre For Mental Health’s board of trustees

Centre for Mental Health has announced the appointment of Poppy Jaman OBE as its newest trustee.

A spokesman for the centre said Ms Jaman is an internationally respected mental health advocate, national policy advisor and social entrepreneur.

A global voice of authority on workplace mental health, she is the CEO of the City Mental Health Alliance (CMHA), a coalition of multinationals working together to create a culture of good mental health and build a global community influencing change and stigma.

In 2018 Ms Jaman was awarded an OBE in recognition of her services to people with mental health issues, in spring 2019, she received an Honorary Doctorate from the University of Gloucestershire and on World Mental Health Day 2019, she won the Asian Media Group GG2 Woman of the Year award.

In December 2019 Ms Jaman was recognised by the FT readers’ as one of the years game-changing women. Until March 2020 this year she was a non-executive director, on the board of Public Health England (PHE) and in this role she influenced the creation of the national Every Mind Matters platform.

She is also the founding CEO of Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) England and, under her leadership, the organisation developed from a small government project into a fast-growing, commercially successful community interest company.

It was recognised by the FT in 2017 as one of the fastest-growing SME’s in Europe.

Speaking on her appointment to the board, Ms Jaman said: ‘I’m excited to be a part of this board, to learn from my peers and to play a helpful role in shaping the direction of journey.

‘I have always been a fan of the centre and I admire both Dame Sue and Sarah’s leadership on issues of social justice for people living with a mental health difficulties.

‘I feel strongly about reducing health inequalities that lead to opportunity and enhances the quality of life for those of us living with mental health challenges.’

Chair of trustees, Professor Dame Sue Bailey, said: ‘We are delighted to welcome Poppy onto the Board of Trustees.

‘Her wealth of experience advocating for better mental health in communities and the workplace, alongside her passion for eradicating the pervasive inequalities which affect our mental health, will help the Centre to keep pushing for better policies and a fairer society now and in the years to come.’
