In this video the best selling author and child counsellor shares why its vital parents and caregivers support their children’s emotions from a young age.

The video was filmed by Kate Silverton, a former BBC newsreader, qualified child counsellor and best-selling parenting author, for Place2Be – the children’s charity that founded Children’s Mental Health Week, which is taking place from 3rd February until 9th February 2025.

This year’s theme is ‘Know Yourself, Grow Yourself’ which aims to encourage children to not shy away from how they’re feeling and develop from it. A key part of ensuring this can happen, according to Kate, is parental support.

She explained: ‘When young children are scared or facing challenges, how we as parents and caregivers react plays a crucial role in helping them to manage their physical and emotional response to stress.’

Since Children’s Mental Health Week launched, we have reported on this years coverage, where the event came from and the importance of spreading awareness.
