Local council’s housing department has completed major improvements on three sets of homes, most recently at Maes y Capel in Coedpoeth
Wrexham County Borough Council has been busy refurbishing its sheltered housing stock to provide modernised, independent living for people over the age of 60. In collaboration with Read Construction, refurbishments have been completed in Llay and Rhos. Now Maes y Capel in Coedpath is ready to offer 18 newly refurbished homes to returning and new contract holders.

The work has aimed to the size and accessibility of apartments, providing maximum comfort, warmth and energy efficiency. For the latter, triple-glazed windows and air source heat pumps have been installed.
In addition, to aid the contract holder’s well-being and reduce loneliness, the refurbished homes now feature a communal area for all contract holders to share as a space to socialise with one another.
Work is now under way in refurbishing another property. Wisteria Court, which was built in the early 1980s, boasts 26 apartments.
Cllr David A Bithell, Lead Member for Housing and Climate Change at Wrexham Couty Borough Council, says: ‘We are pleased to have completed another refurbishment on our Sheltered Housing stock. The completion of Maes y Capel will provide the returning and new contract holders with a newly refurbished home which will encourage independent living alongside a close community spirit. We look forward to continuing to progress with our next refurbishment at Wisteria Court and will continue to update you throughout the process.’
Cllr Krista Childs, County Councillor at Coedpoeth Community Council, adds: ‘Maes y Capel is looking absolutely transformed from the exterior of the building after the refurbishments by Read Construction, and I am really looking forward to seeing how the improvements have changed inside of the building very soon. I know that many residents are also excited about the new improvements to their accommodation which will make this facility a much more comfortable environment.’
Cllr Anthony Wedlake, Chair of South Ward at Coedpoeth Community Council, says: ‘I, like most Coedpoeth residents, have watched the refurbishment with interest. Now it’s completed, we can admire it with pride. Having visited a previously refurbished home in Rhos, I can assure residents that it looks as good on the inside as it does on the outside. I wish the returning residents and new residents every happiness in their new home.’
