The song, ‘Love is Enough’, is a tribute to the responsibilities of young carers and the bond they share with the people they look after.
During the Christmas period we’re reminded to try and give back to those who need it most, however young carers work to do this all year round – this year in particular.
The 2024 school census in England estimates that there are around 54,000 young carers in state-funded schools, which is around 0.6% of all pupils in the country. This figure, which is thought to be underreported, represents an increase of 14,993 from last year.
In a bid to celebrate these individuals, Bath Philharmonia’s Young Carers’ Choir have released an original charity Christmas single in support of Carers Trust and Bath Philharmonia – one of the leading professional orchestras based in the Southwest.
Titled ‘Love is Enough’, the track was co-written by lead vocalist Charlotte Foley who lives in Sailsbury and worked as a young carer for many years whilst she was in school in Downtown. Five other young carers also worked on the single alongside Charlotte.
What’s more, Lib Dem MP, Ed Davey also features as a lead vocalist in the song and is working to promote it.
‘I am delighted to team up with the Bath Philharmonia’s Young Carers’ Choir on a brand new, original charity Christmas sing in support of Carers Trust and Bath Philharmonia,’ Davey said. ‘It was a joy to spend time with this amazing group of young carers and to see their incredible talents, energy and love.’
‘Our launch was a fabulous chance to highlight the challenges facing young carers and the support available for them,’ Davey continued.
To help raise funds for Carers Trust and Bath Philharmonia the track is available for 99p downloads from iTunes and Amazon Music. This can be accessed here.
When it was first released, the song raced up the ‘Official UK Singles Downloads’ chart as it reached number 28 in just eight days. Now the group are aiming for a final big push on downloads this week in time for the Christmas number one reveal.
Davey added: ‘I hope you’ll download the song and enjoy it this Christmas, taking some time to think about this amazing group of people who look after loved ones from such an early age.’
