Occupational therapist recruitment campaign

Lancashire County Council is recruiting more occupational therapists as part of its plans to deal with winter pressures and the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

These specialised staff will support older people and adults with disabilities to live independently to improve their quality of life and reduce pressures on the health and care system.

The occupational therapists will support people with hospital discharges to ensure they have the care and support they need at home, and prevent hospital delays.

They will also work with community health and social care partners to prevent hospital admissions.

These professionals will assess people either in their own home, at care homes, or other residential schemes.

The closing date for applications is Sunday 10 January. The roles will be fixed-term positions for two years. Training and personal protective equipment will be provided.

Cllr Graham Gooch, cabinet member for adult services, said: ‘Occupational therapists play a vital role ensuring adults have the support they need to live as independently as possible.

‘This is absolutely crucial because living independently and safely at home is much better for people’s mental and physical health and wellbeing.

‘They will carry out assessments, assist people to recover their independence to undertake essential tasks for themselves, organise adaptations to people’s homes and ensure equipment is provided to help people with their care needs.

‘The occupational therapists will ensure people are less likely to need to go to hospital.

‘They will also ensure hospital patients have the right support when they get home, helping to reduce delays in people being transferred from hospital into social care.

‘This recruitment campaign is a key part of our plans to support the NHS and ensure care is provided to adults who need it most throughout the Covid-19 pandemic.

In addition to the occupational therapist roles, the council is also advertising for a number of social worker and support officer roles across Lancashire.
