The National Association of Care and Support Workers (NCAS) has joined forces with the Care Workers Charity (CWC) to support the care workforce.
The two organisations said they will work together to ensure that care workers’ voices are heard and that they receive the recognition they deserve.
Founded in 2009, the CWC aims to support current and former care workers with one-off crisis grants. In 2018 they awarded more than £150, 000 in grants to almost 400 care workers.
NCAS CEO Karolina Gerlich has joined the charity as executive director and will work on policy, campaigning and research.
She said: ‘It was a privilege to represent care workers for the last three years at NACAS.
‘I am looking forward to leading the Care Workers Charity and working hard to get the care workers the respect and recognition we deserve.’
NACAS will continue to be run by its founder, Paul Featherstone, and will continue to provide its members with a range of services including benefits, training opportunities and advice to assist with career development and their mental health and well-being.
He said: ‘It has been an honour and a privilege to have worked with Karolina at Nacas for the past two and a half years.
‘I would like to take this opportunity to thank her for all her hard work over this time, and wish her every success in her new role as an executive director for the Care Workers Charity.
‘The CWC is a highly respected organisation within the social care sector.
‘I am excited by the prospect of continuing to work with Karolina in her new role and ensuring that by working together, NACAS and CWC will become a powerful voice for care workers, and to ensure they ultimately get the recognition, they so richly deserve.’
Care Workers are at the front line of the coronavirus crisis, caring for society’s most vulnerable and most susceptible to the disease.
If a care worker needs to self-isolate, they will fall into desperate need. The CWC has set up a Just Giving campaign to raise funds to support care workers at this difficult time.
