This is an exciting opportunity to deliver work mostly around Castleford, Airedale, Pontefract and Knottingley and at the Hut Youth Hub, with the ability to work across the whole District as part of the District Wide Youth Work team, delivering youth clubs, detached wok and youth programmes for young people aged 11-17.

The Early Intervention and Prevention Service work with many partners in Wakefield, as part of Wakefield Families Together. Wakefield Families Together brings services together, to join up how we work, so that it’s easier for children, young people and families to find and access the support they need, at the earliest opportunity.

The Youth Work team in Wakefield is an exciting and fast developing team that seek to:

  • Deliver work with young people at the centre of everything we do.
  • Lead on the development and coordination of district-wide, regional and national youth work, programmes and interventions.
  • Plan and deliver district wide youth work in schools, youth centres, outdoor spaces and through detached work on the streets.  
  • Ensure there is sufficient and appropriate youth provision for young people across the district.
  • Deliver structured, informal learning opportunities for young people who may not have other access to safe spaces and trusted adults.
  • Work with colleagues and wider partners to identify funding opportunities to secure additional resources to meet gaps in the youth offer and ensure increased opportunities for vulnerable and underrepresented young people to engage in youth activity.

The main duties of the Youth and Community Support Practitioner are to:

  • Deliver and develop youth clubs, detached youth work and school sessions.
  • Work with the team and youth sector partners to strengthen youth work and work with young people across the district.
  • Increase the number of young people participating in youth voice and influence activities.
  • Grow the service’s online youth work presence and detached offer with partners.
  • Identify gaps and build provision for young people where it is needed most

We are looking for some who is:

  • Passionate about working with young people.
  • Looking to build a strong career in youth work.
  • Experienced in delivering high quality youth work with a healthy dose of fun.
  • Able to include youth voice in the planning and delivery of work that responds to the needs of young people.
  • Willing to work flexibly, working regular evenings and occasional weekends to best meet the needs of young people.

Essential requirements:

  • A level 3 qualification in Youth Work or a commitment to complete this within 2 years.
  • A full driving licence and own vehicle (unless unable to drive due to disability).
  • Experience of working with young people.
