The Role

Richmond and Wandsworth Adult Social Care & Public Health Department has strong social work values and a focus on improving outcomes to vulnerable adults and their carers.

The Mental Health Service is made up of the following areas:

  • Richmond and Wandsworth Mental Health Social Care Team
  • Substance Misuse Team
  • Mental Health Reviews, Accommodation and Projects Team

The teams consist of enthusiastic Social Workers and Social Care Assessors with a focus to provide a holistic, personalised, strength-based service to residents over the age of 18 who have a primary mental health diagnosis or substance misuse issues.

We are looking for an experienced Senior Social Worker to join our Wandsworth Mental Health Social Care Team. The team is currently working from home due to COVID-19 pandemic and restrictions.

Your duties will include:

  • Using strength-based approach in promoting service user choice and empowerment through promoting independence and strength-based practice to enable residents to maintain their independence and local community connections for as long as safely possible.
  • Facilitate and enable supervisees to make responsive communication with partners, especially the Health Trust.  Emphasis of multi-agency working to provide the best for our service users
  • Ensure accurate electronic recording for self and supervisees (good report writing skills are very important).
  • To undertake statutory interventions, act as SAM (Safeguarding adult manager) where service users are deemed to be at risk, including situations where people may be neglected or abused in accordance with the Inter-Agency Policy and Procedures for Safeguarding Adults and to chair Section 42 Safeguarding Adults Enquiries where required.
  • To assist as required with the management of budgets, ensuring that processes and procedures are carried out in a timely and effective way; including authorising Reviews/ assessments, reassessments and arranging necessary funding to meet the requirements of individual support plans within available resources.
  • To provide operational and motivational leadership of staff, promoting a positive working environment with the primary aim of delivering high quality services, including supervision of a small number of staff.
  • To manage the team’s duty team on a rota basis and oversee all incoming referrals and safeguarding concerns.
  • To promote equality, diversity, and inclusion, maintaining an awareness of the equality and diversity protocol/policy and working to create and maintain a safe, supportive and welcoming environment where all people are treated with dignity and their identity and culture are valued and respected.
