Expected to work across the Wandsworth borough

Are you an experienced professional who thrives on collaborative partnership working, including health, education and social care to ensure families receive holistic and tailored support?

The Parental Mental Health Service (PMHS) is part of Wandsworth Council's Early Help Division, offering targeted support to families where parental mental health challenges may affect children’s well-being, development and safety.

You will join a service that focuses on early intervention and prevention, delivering Tier 1 mental health support to parents through one-to-one sessions, group work, and brief interventions, with referrals to specialist services where needed.

About the Role

AsFamily Support Practitioner, you will lead and deliver a wide range of interventions to support families, with a focus on parental mental health. Weekly sessions are held across Roehampton, Battersea, and Tooting at local venues, ensuring accessibility for families.

Working as part of Wandsworth Council’s Family Hub Offer, you will provide direct family support, plan play sessions, oversee social work student placements, and deliver supervision to staff. You will help parents develop their parenting skills, improve mental health outcomes and ensure children have the best start in life.

You will also work with children from conception to 19 years (or up to 25 years for those with special educational needs and disabilities), aligning your work with Wandsworth Council’s values.

Essential Qualifications, Skills and Experience

  • A recognised Level 4 qualification or higher in social work, childcare, education, or a related field.
  • Proven experience supervising or managing staff in a family support or early help setting.
  • Experience planning and delivering play-based activities for children aged 0–5, informed by the EYFS framework.
  • Knowledge and experience of safeguarding practices, including risk management and escalation with specific experience in casework and delivering group-based interventions to families.
  • Experience supporting parents with mental health challenges and delivering evidence-based interventions with the ability to engage and build relationships with families, including those who are ‘seldom heard’.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and IT skills for recording work and communicating effectively with families and professionals with a commitment to equal opportunities and an understanding of the impact of deprivation and discrimination on families.

If you meet the above criteria and would like the opportunity to make a real difference to the lives of children and families in Wandsworth, ensuring they have access to the right support at the right time through the Family Hub model – we encourage you to apply for this opportunity.
