Assistant Director of Commissioning | salary from £92,223 - £112,283 per annum (£117,679 unconsolidated maximum, achievable through performance related progression in line with our annual appraisal process).
We are seeking an innovative and dynamic Assistant Director of Commissioning to join our People Services Directorate. This is a broad strategic and operational commissioning role that spans adult social care, children’s services, health, housing, and education, with a primary focus on adult social care. A significant part of your role will involve driving forward transformation initiatives with a focus on early intervention and prevention, especially in our highest cost areas.

You will play a crucial role in supporting the innovation of our service models by exploring integration opportunities, how we use technology, and the role that digital services may play in our future. In this role you will enhance service delivery by making data and evidence informed decisions in line with our council priorities.
In this role you will be responsible for overseeing effective and efficient policy development, direct service delivery and specialist brokerage with budgetary oversight across all commissioned services. This includes leading contract compliance, quality improvement, and quality assurance functions. You will provide guidance and support to elected members to help them translate their political priorities into initiatives that deliver the intended and tangible outcomes for our residents.
About You
We are looking for a systems thinker with energy, passion, enthusiasm, and creativity. You will have extensive experience in the leadership and management of commissioning services at a senior level within social care and health. At a time of increased demand and shrinking resources, you’ll be able to demonstrate a track record of delivering savings and efficiencies without impacting the quality of the services you have led, with strong analytical skills for options appraisal and cost-benefit analysis. Experience in leading successful major service change is crucial, as is excellent communication and interpersonal skills to foster strong partnerships.
You should have a thorough understanding of the legislation and statutory framework affecting service delivery in health and social care. Your ability to work autonomously at a senior strategic and corporate level to provide leadership and direction will be key.
