Everyone interested in advancing sustainability in healthcare is invited to free online event run by Health Innovation East (the innovation arm of the NHS in the East of England) and consultancy 42 Technology.
A webinar, Driving Innovation: Paving the Path to a Net Zero NHS, will take place between 9.30 am and 1 pm (UK time) on Tuesday, September 24, 2024 – and is open to anyone with an interest in the subject who wishes to attend.
According to a paper in academic journal Health Policy published earlier this year, the healthcare sector currently produces almost 5% of all global greenhouse gas emissions, while the impacts of climate change such as extreme heat and worsening air pollution directly increase the risk of various respiratory, cardiovascular and other diseases. In 2020, NHS England committed to achieving net zero by 2045 – the first health service in the world to make such a commitment. If that target is to be achieved and a greener NHS created, innovation and collaboration are essential.
That’s the thinking behind this new webinar, the aim of which is to provide participants with a clearer understanding of the NHS’s current sustainability initiatives as well as insights on actions that they might implement in their own organisations. Overall, the hope is to generate a renewed sense of empowerment to accelerate the drive towards net zero.
Anyone with a passion for driving sustainable innovation in healthcare is encouraged to attend.
The webinar, to be chaired by Maria Mackay, Senior Commercial Advisor at Health Innovation East, will feature presentations on such matters as the critical importance of achieving net zero within healthcare. There will be a roundtable discussion on overcoming barriers to change, and sharing of examples of successful decarbonisation initiatives within healthcare and in other sectors.
In addition, there will be an interactive Q&A session with both Lise Pape, founder of Walk With Path, which develops innovative products to help people with everyday mobility challenges, and Tom Dawson, founder of Revolution-ZERO, a company pioneering reuseable medical textiles to replace disposable PPE and other surgical wear.
All webinar attendees will also be offered a follow-up session with tailored advice on assessing carbon footprints, exploring reduction options and implementing effective decarbonisation strategies to support their net zero goals, provided by experts at 42T, Health Innovation East and Eco Sourcing Hub.
