We Are Care launched to end ‘transactional’ care work culture

Unlike traditional agencies, the new social enterprise aims to pay every healthcare worker above the Real Living Wage.

‘Care workers play a vital role in society, yet their pay has long failed to reflect their contribution,’ Julian Humphreys, co-founder of We Are Care said. ‘We Are Care is leading change by offering not just fair wages, but also milestone-based bonus payments ensuring workers retention as well as feeling valued, motivated, and rewarded.’

The newly founded organisation was launched to try and boost retention levels among the care sector and was established on two principals including ‘purpose before profit’ and ‘prosperity for all’. 

Meanwhile, separate findings from The King’s Fund show how needed pay increases are for care workers. The figures outline low pay as well as challenging working conditions are the main reason almost one in four UK care workers left their role in 2022/23. What’s more, over 900 adult social care workers were discovered to have quit their jobs daily in England.
