Care careers event launched for British students

Today school and college pupils will gather at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for the biggest ever care careers conference and exhibition.

The Who Cares Wins! conference has returned to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium today, Tuesday 19th November. The event was first created in 2023 and is organised by Hallmark Foundation with Championing Social Care.

The event aims to break down the misconception that a rewarding career can’t be found in social care. It’s no secret that the Covid-19 pandemic and the cost-of-living have had detrimental effects on the sector, but people who want to care and look after others for a living won’t find a better role.

Hundreds of individuals would agree with this statement, especially those speaking at today’s event. They include:

  • Conference MC, Bailey-Stephen Greetham-Clark, who leads Be Great Fitness
  • Avnish Goyal CBE, Chair of Hallmark Foundation and Championing Social Care
  • Oonagh Smith, Chief Executive of Skills for Care
  • Jermaine Harris, one of the country’s leading motivational presenters
  • Nye Brown, Managing Director of Hallmark Luxury Care Homes
  • Young people already working in the care sector – Charlie Lebatt, Lily Patrick, Tamuka Muvevi and Veiz Cani
  • Anita Goyal MBE, Chair of the Goyal Foundation
  • Beth England, Tottenham Hotspur women’s captain and Lioness
  • Break out sessions will be led by UpFront Theatre, Dudley Sawyer, Lee Gilbert, Simran Sehmi and Isabelle Latham

Support from a wide range of other charities and care tech providers has also made the event possible. Some of the organisations include the Rayne Foundation, Goyal Foundation, Salutem Care and Education, Sona, Nourish Care and Tribepad.

Welcoming students to Who Cares Wins!, Avnish Goyal and Anita Goyal, said: ‘Social Care is vital to everyone – all of us will need care or become caregivers ourselves at some point in our lives. The demand for care is only set to grow. With the increasing needs of older and disabled adults, it’s predicted that in the next decade there will be at least half a million new jobs in this rapidly expanding sector. And it’s not just frontline care—there are roles across hospitality, technology, finance, HR, PR, and many more. That’s why this event is so important—it marks the start of real change.

‘We hope following Who Cares Wins! that young people will feel empowered, inspired and informed about what a career in social care really looks like. We need people who are passionate, dedicated, and caring and want to make a real difference. Young people who care will win!’

People who unfortunately can’t attend today’s event in person can still join in through livestreaming and access recordings of talks. Information about how to do this can be found here
