Winners of Age Scotland’s awards revealed

In aid of International Day of Older Persons, Age Scotland announced the champions of six national awards at its annual conference.

The event was held in Glasgow yesterday and saw TV personality Glen Michael celebrate six groups and individuals who strive to support older people. Arguably, there’s no better way to celebrate International Day of Older Persons.

The 2024 Age Scotland award winners include:

  • Member Group of the Year – Golden Friendships, Clydebank
  • Jess Barrow Award for Campaigning and Influencing – Willy Gilder, Edinburgh and Fife
  • Patrick Brooks Award for Best Partnership Working – Musical Memories, Isle of Harris
  • Services to Older People – Networking Key Services, Edinburgh
  • Volunteer of the Year – Marjory D’Arcy, Aberdeen
  • Inspiration Award – Michael Gettins, Isle of Arran

Commenting on the event, Katherine Crawford, chief executive of Age Scotland, said: ‘I am delighted to mark the UN Day of Older People by presenting this year’s Age Scotland awards to six very worthy winners.  I am blown away by the dedication they show to improving the lives of older people the length and breadth of the country, working tirelessly to combat loneliness and isolation, helping to build new friendships and sharing advice and information.

‘Our award winners touch the lives of so many older people, their families and wider communities. From the Isle of Harris to Clydebank, older people are happier, better connected, less isolated, better informed and more aware because of the groups, lunch clubs, information services, inclusive events and activities run by the Age Scotland award winners.’

‘For our six winners, celebrating older people isn’t confined to one UN-sanctioned day a year. It’s a year-round commitment,’ Katherine continued. ‘But today is our chance to celebrate them – along with 15 very special groups and individuals who won Highly Commended certificates – and say thank you for all their hard work from all of us at Age Scotland.’
