‘Standing Out and Fitting In’: Deafblind UK announces autumn conference

This free event, which aims to enhance deaf and blind people’s quality of life, is due to take place online on 3rd October 2024.

As the number of people living with deafblindness continues to rise – in 2022 it was estimated that there were over 450,000 deafblind people in the UK – it is more important than ever to raise awareness about the day-to-day societal barriers they face. This is why Deafblind UK, a leading charity, are hosting their conference, ‘Standing Out and Fitting In’ next month.

Nikki Morris, CEO of Deafblind UK

The event is completely free and is taking place online so everybody can have the opportunity to join. Lord David Blunkett is set to open the conference with a keynote address. Lord Blunkett has been a member of the House of Lords since 2015 and previously served as the member of parliament for Sheffield Brightside and Hillsborough from 1987 to 2015.

‘At Deafblind UK, we believe that ever deafblind person has the right to fully participate in society, and this conference is an opportunity to highlight both the challenges and successes within the community,’ said Nikki Morris, CEO of the charity. ‘Through shared experiences, informative sessions, and collaboration, we aim to foster a more inclusive environment where everyone can thrive.’
