Social Care workers will have to have the Covid vaccine

A new, which was voted in on Wednesday (December 15), will mean that all social care and NHS workers will be required to have their Covid-19 vaccine in order to continue to work.

MPs voted for the new regulations yesterday evening, which requires NHS and social care staff to be vaccinated by April 2022 – the law was voted 385 to 100 in favour and means that those who haven’t yet been vaccinated have only a few months to get vaccinated or they will face losing their jobs.

Although the new regulation was approved, the law did meet resistance as recent news has seen people question whether this will exasperate pressure on the NHS if people choose to leave over the issue.

61 Conservative MPs opposed the new measure, but 257 more Conservative MPS voted for the new law. Several other laws were passed in Parliament yesterday evening, all of which were designed to help curb rising Covid-19 cases in the UK, due to the Omicron variant.

Other laws that caused contention were the mandatory “Covid passports”, which will be required to enter nightclubs and other large venues in England, which was the largest rebellion Boris Johnson has seen since he took office, with nearly 100 Conservative MP’s rebelling.

Law around face masks was also improved, adding museums and galleries to the list of places where face coverings must be worn.

This comes after recent news that Sir Geoffrey Clifton-Brown, treasurer of the 1922 Committee – a group of Conservative MPs – suggested a leadership challenge in 2022 had “got to be on the cards” if Boris Johnson continues to get such significant rebellion.
